Darryl, aka ‘Stubbs’, was a kindred spirit that had a profound impact on those of us who were fortunate enough to have known him. Darryl did not just love things – he was intensely passionate about them: his family and friends, music, cooking, golf and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The world never ceased to amaze Darryl….both the good and bad. You could always count on him to completely engage you in conversation on those things he was most passionate. Darryl will always be remembered for his sharp wit. You would often see him sitting quietly in a group and at seemingly the right moment, with a mischievous grin on his face, make a witty comment or observation that would bring everyone to tears in laughter.
Sadly, Darryl’s story ended too soon. Suicide is a very complicated issue. We need to break the silence and raise our voices. We need to start having conversations about mental health. Our family has taken a stand in the fight against suicide….we want to raise awareness in the hopes of breaking the stigma to prevent other stories from ending too soon.
Though we will never stop missing Darryl, we will move forward and remember those things we loved about him most: his wit, passion, loyalty and of course, that mischievous grin.
